Downtown roads not fit for Cecil Jarvis 10K

Runners won’t be pounding the pavement in downtown Clarksburg this summer. Instead, the annual Cecil Jarvis Greater Clarksburg 10K/5K is hitting the trails, as organizers announced a new location for the 2025 event due to ongoing street renovations downtown.

This year’s race, scheduled for Saturday, June 28, will now take place at Veterans Memorial Park, near the Freedom Shelter off WV-98. Start times remain the same: the 10K kicks off at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K at 8:40 a.m., and the Kids K at 10 a.m.

Rather than the traditional downtown route, this year’s course takes advantage of Clarksburg’s scenic trail system. The 5K will follow a double loop around the VA Trail, while the 10K starts with a half-loop before stretching out onto the South Harrison Rail Trail and circling back to the VA Trail for the finish.

Organizers determined the change was necessary to avoid the maze of construction equipment, detours downtown, and the risk of losing a runner in a hole. They remain committed to delivering the same energetic, family-friendly race day experience the community has come to expect.
